GemGfx ready for 2010

When GemGfx opened it’s doors on a permanent basis in April of 2009, we never imagined the wild ride that we would be in for. We went from a fledgling company, to one that experienced amazing growth in a very short space of time. We did make some mistakes, we’re a young company so we expected that. We also experienced tremendous successes. All in all we are humbled and grateful for the year that has gone by. (more…)

Website Submissions for Habesha Style

pres_header

Introduction

As promised, these are the new website template samples for the online clothing store. Keeping in mind the concept behind the logo and your client market, and your request for a modern look. It is important that I mention here, that these are just samples, and should be considered as such. They are not the final product, and nothing is etched in stone. These are designed to give an idea of what the final product will look like. Once you decide upon a template, you will be able to modify that template to bring it to the final product. Read More

Succeeding as an outsource designer in a cluttered marketplace.

The globalization of the design industry has brought into play a dynamic that has changed the face of the marketplace. Now there are many “design firms” offering a wide range of services at extremely competitive prices making it harder and harder for the qualified designer to justify his prices or make a decent living from his trade.

Follow GemGfx Now On Twitter.com

Yep, it’s true. We to at GemGfx have latched on to the craze. As small business owners, it’s a good idea to use every available free resource to market your product.

Social networking in recent times has become big business and it’s only natural that you use the markets available to you for free. One such tool that has come about in recent times is the website known as “Twitter“. It started after Facebook, but already it’s a big hit. Even President Obama’s campaign team used Twitter to keep voters up to date about the progress of the campaign for election.

GemGfx may not be as big as a Presidential campaign, but we can still maximize the use of free social networking tools to build up what is a world class brand.

GemGfx has a new Toolbar

In the never ending search to bring new and fresh content to GemGfx, I came across another website that allows users to build a customizable toolbar. To ad to your site so visitors can download and keep up to date with what’s going on on your site. It’s a really powerful tool and I must commend the developers of the site. It’s called Conduit, and it’s a free service.

So I signed up for a free account and created a customized toolbar for GemGfx. I designed a cool ad and placed it on my website as well. You can have a look at it here:

With this GemGfx toolbar, you can keep up to date with the latest developments in the GemGfx community.

How much is your site worth

I’m sure many website owners in their quest to get good page ranking etc, wonder about the value of their website. I came across a very useful online resource a while ago, where you can get a valuation of your website. There are many such websites available to check your site value. The one I am referring to is Website Outlook.

I did a check of GemGfx recently and this is what I got.

My site is worth $3131.7.
How much is yours worth?

Not bad. But I should make a point here. This is just an automated program that checks your site value based on several protocols. It is by no means accurate.

Also, this tool does not take into account what your site means to you, or how much your site is worth in your own eyes. In most webmaster’s cases, as is mine, a site you build from scratch, nurtured, modified etc for years, is worth a great deal more than what an online tool can tell you. Check it out.

Catdace Javascript Tutorial

Introduction:

For this forth and final coursework assignment, I chose to go with something that is of particular interest to me. That is the use of Java as it applies to web based applications in particular the use of the Java Applet. I am interested in learning how to produce web graphics using java and also to make them interactive. In addition to this I wanted to find a way to bring sound effects into the web experience using java.

Java Applets are very useful for web developers for it allows them to integrate with the users browser an application of some sort to increase the users interactivity with the web.

An applet is a little Prior to the World Wide Web, the built-in writing and drawing programs that came with Windows were sometimes called “applets.” On the Web, using Java, the object-oriented programming language, an applet is a small program that can be sent along with a Web page to a user. Java applets can perform interactive animations, immediate calculations, or other simple tasks without having to send a user request back to the server.

For this particular assignment I have located a java applet that displays a button in a web browser that when clicked by the user explodes. It incorporates, graphics, interactivity, and sound, all with the use of Java. It appears in the web browser with the use of a Java Applet. It is a simple code but it incorporates four of the basics of Java that I would like to learn.

1. Java Applets.

2. Images.

3. Sound

4. User interactivity.

The Program:

I simply wanted to create a program that could be placed in a web page that gave a user some type of interactivity (something to click) that would cause the program to act and then cause some kind of result that involved images and sound. I did not need to use more than one field so I shortened the program.

I wanted to know how to get an image to appear in a browser and an audio file to play using java. The Cat Dance program did just that.

Benifits of a Home Business

Starting a Home Business – Exposing the 5 Big Benefits of Working From Home

Author: Brendan Brosnan

The successful home business owners throughout the world share in a lifestyle often unmatched by company jobs. From a survey done by Home Office Computing Magazine, 98 % are happier working from home. Here are the 5 big benefits of a home run business.

1) Money: On average the earnings of a home run business in America is about $60,000/year. The amount of money that can be earned in a home run business can be staggering. There is great potential in home-run businesses to achieve high incomes and profits. The income minus the costs equals the profits, which goes directly to the home business owner. This simple math shows that it’s all about big profits provided the business provides a saleable product or service.

2) Personal Satisfaction: This may be the most profound benefit to most home businesses. It is a position of great feeling to own a home business. It is a feeling of achievement, and of service rendered. It is more satisfying according to the level of good the business is doing for people. The more the home business is helping people, the more general good it is doing. This is directly related to how good it makes the owner feel. It is good to give!

3) No Daily Commute: Another important factor in the lifestyle of a home business person is the convenience of simply being at home. This point can be emphasized to a low degree, or a very high degree of significance. It depends on the person’s normal daily traveling time from home to the workplace. On average it could be 30 minutes commute to work every day and an equal time on returning home. Home businesses benefit because they save on the travel expenses as well as the time it takes. Home business owners are able to simply wake at their convenient start time and set the hours themselves.

4) The Boss: Home businesses have the benefit of having internal control. The home business owner is the boss. As the boss, all the decisions are made, the hours of work are chosen, the rewards are given, the punishments are devised, the business is managed, and there is total control. Calling the shots as it were is a dream for most people out there and there is a real feeling of power.

5) Life Security: In today’s climate of economic uncertainty, the most secure of jobs are home based jobs. This is so because, when times get tough, home businesses can work harder and survive. However, some company paying jobs cannot be relied upon to remain secure no matter how hard the person works. There is more security in a home business, and the power is with the home business person. She/he can make it or break it. It’s in their control.

To summarise, these 5 big benefits are the rewards that may be reaped from a successful home based business. In fact, the process of building the home business can be as much fun as the mentioned benefits. It is as much about the journey and the person you become, as the tangable benefits and results of working from home.
