We at GemGfx are never satisfied with ourselves. We are continually working to improve the quality of our work and our image as a design firm in the large market of design firms out there. We are continually looking at ourselves to find ways in which we can develop our skills and expertise to better meet the design needs of our customers and potential customers. The reality is that as technology develops, possibilities in design develop as well and alongside this, needs in design. If we as a design firm do not develop as well, we will find ourselves becoming obsolete and left behind.

With the development of our our organization and our design team, and the work we do for our customers, we believe our image must also evolve to reflect this change. As a result, we have been continually working on our brand development to fine tune what we see as one of the best brands to come along in a number of years. (shameless bias). We aim to develop a brand that can be recognized anywhere, that is distinct from any that exists, has gone before it, or will come after it. It is to be a brand that is synonymous with style, elegance and visionary out of the box thinking.

Our a brand is definitely a work in progress, just like the organization that is GemGfx itself. Of course we are aware of the danger of so drastically changing our look and feel, and so regularly interfering with our brand, that folks will begin having trouble recognizing us. To avoid this from happening, we have taken great care to fine tune our brand while at the same time maintaining it’s core themes such as colors and icons.

In our latest installment, we have maintained our colors as well as our knight chess pieces. We have also maintained the basic layout of our icon and type placements. We have however opted for a new background complimentary color as well as a lower case font as apposed to the all caps that we had previously. We have also chosen a metallic render of our colors which registers well against the new dark background. The metallic rendering we believe will adequately communicate our high end design skill as well as our visionary approach to design. We always try to think not just out of the box, but ahead of it.

We were asked to submit a proposal to develop a design for the Trinidad and Tobago Defense Force 2010 calender. We were approached by Capt. Al Alexander of the TTDF who saw some of the work we did for another company. We submitted our proposal and won the bid. We along with Capt. Alexander worked to produce the following result. The design needed to be professional, patriotic and classic. It was to be viewed by TTDF heads, as well as other high ranking officials both local and abroad. No pressure!

After much work, the following work was the result.

The finished product looked stunning and it was reported to us that it was well received by all. We were told that we will be called upon in the future to produce more award winning results. Feel free to leave your comments and tell us what you think.

We were approached by the BDC with the request to come up with a way to visually communicate their corporate statements. They had several statements that they wanted to be displayed in a tasteful way, that would resemble their brand, and would communicate to employees as well as consumers the ideals and philosophy that drives the BDC.

We together with consultation with the client were able to deliver another project that fulfilled the project requirements, but maintained our creative slant. We designed a four panel layout each panel displaying one of the statements. We designed it in such a way that all four panels could also sit side by side to create a flowing design. The panels could stand alone and communicate each individual message, and together they give a complete picture as each flow into each other. We selected images that the client was happy with and that communicated the main idea of the message within the particular panel.

We always approach each project with the same zeal and endeavor as much as the project would allow, to maintain our commitment to creativity. We are proud to add this latest effort to our award winning portfolio.

As we sit at the dawn of a new year, we are very excited at the thought of what 2010 will bring. We’re almost a year older, and just a bit wiser, or at least wise enough to know that we still have much more to do and a lot more to learn. We have many things planned for the upcoming year as long as the Lord gives us the strength and creativity. We Look forward excitedly to the challenges and successes that the new year will bring.

GemGfx has also undergone some changes. We have added a GemGfx Consulting which is a department that will be facilitating customers and potential customers with much needed direction, advise and expertise. Our creative department will also be expanding as we bring on board some new and brilliant talent. We will also be making available here at GemGfx some free resources and information that will be of great use to our customers and those interested in the field of Graphic Design.

GemGfx recently had the pleasure of working with Mr. Sam Graber and his team at The Directors. Sam is one one of the Partners at The Directors, LLP which is based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. USA. The Directors produces and presenter commercial theater. Our
mission is to grow a national network of venues that consistently delivers the magic of live theater entertainment to targeted audiences.


We were called upon to design the logo and brand for an arm of their company that went under the name The Directors Studios. It was basically a place where professional creative people could rehearse and perfect their craft. GemGfx was responsible for designing the brand that would communicate this ideal and philosophy.

The following was the result of our collaborated effort.

The end result is the Sam and the folks at The Directors studios, were extremely pleased with our product and have signed on with us for more projects. We are grateful to God for His continued blessings. Both for sending us quality clients, and giving us quality ideas and the skill to make it happen.

It must be understood that Branding is more than just a Logo. Branding is an all encompassing term that refers to everything that is involved in the identity of a company or organization. This includes the Logo, Color Choices, Imagery, Ideology, Mission, Character, Reputation, and the list goes on.

The Business Directory defines branding as follows:

Entire process involved in creating a unique name and image for a product (good or service) in the consumers’ mind, through advertising campaigns with a consistent theme. Branding aims to establish a significant and differentiated presence in the market that attracts and retains loyal customers.

So we see that branding is not just about creating a unique mark or image, but it is also defined by it’s purpose which is to establish a presence in the market and attract a certain demographic of customers. Needless to say Brands can go through changes. This happens often as the company the brand represents redefines it’s objectives and target markets and they need to update their brand to communicate the change. Some of the best known brands in the world have gone through changes since they first were revealed on the market. Here is a famous examples.:

GemGfx is no different. When we first started, our market demographic was not as well defined as it is now. When we first started almost 5 years ago, we were just another one of the many web design companies that were saturating the web. Now we proudly provide high quality graphic design services to medium and small business companies. We are also know for our friendly and flexible customer service. We enjoy and maintain a good working relationship with our customers. They are not just our customers, but our good friends. We provide them with quality work at prices that they can afford and they appreciate us for that. So our branding as well went through some changes.

After a bit of change, we now have the logo that represents GemGfx.

The logo also became very recognizable as our service to our customers was consistent with quality and good customer service. Customers began to recognize our identity where ever they saw it. We also went on to render the logo in 3d, which gave the professional edge to our brand. Showing that we were on the cutting edge of design and that we could provide the very best quality despite our size and our prices.

We also came across a face, that we believed represented the friendly atmosphere that GemGfx’s customers enjoy when they come to us. The face has become very popular and when new customers come to us they feel welcomed just as a receptionist will greet someone walking into an office building.

As GemGfx grows and evolves, our brand will continue to reflect those changes. Thus allowing our ideals, mission and vision to continue to be effectively communicated to our clients and potential clients. Everyday becoming the global brand that everyone can recognize.

Just an update on our branding direction:

For the launch of our 2010 drive, we’ve come up with a slight modification to our 3d logo. We believe it represents the direction, exclusiveness and professionalism we endeavor to strive for in 2010. The material of the 3d icon we have changed slightly, and we’ve included a 3d rendering of the year 2010 under our logo.

As we look forward to 2010 and what it can bring, we are humbled by the growth and development that we have enjoyed thus far, and look forward to much more growth in this brand new year.

We at GemGfx have recently completed what we would categorized as our largest and most involved project to date. Born out of the creative link forged months ago with The Directors Studios, whose Branding Package GemGfx was responsible for developing, we were fortunate to be afforded the opportunity to work on another project titled Junior Claus.

Junior Claus, is a Broadway Style production of a musical comedy, and well be viewed by hundreds perhaps thousands in the twin city area of the US. It is being produced by Beyond Broadway, a company under the umbrella of The Directors Studios. The fine folks at The Directors Studios, and our Team here at GemGfx, worked many long and hard hours to ensure that we came up with the right graphic communication for the project.
